Likewise. But I am comforted by the words in Jeremiah: "I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me." Even the fear of the Lord is something that the Spirit of God works in us in the new covenant.
So important! Reading Narnia with the kids now and Lewis tries his best to emphasize this about Aslan, how he’s not some fluffy kitty, but someone truly terrible - and supremely goid at the same time.
the early Church fathers were talking about how yes, the rainbow is a sign of God’s love/promise, but it’s also a sign of his terrifying power, his weapon (bow) with which he destroyed the world, and the red is a reminder too if the flames yet to come. You put it perfectly: fear and fear relieved all at once.
Amen. I thought about a Narnia reference for this. I love the scene when he is talking to Jill near the river. Happy thanksgiving to you and your family!
Thank you, I’m writing this for myself as well, other fears try to compete with the fear of the Lord for our attention. I like having the Lord’s prayer, the first line we pray is, “our father in heaven” as a reminder that he is in heaven, and we are on earth.

Wonderful. Too many Christians do not understand the "fear of the Lord", and without it there is no true understanding of His mercy.
